La Pietra Workshop on Philosophy of Cosmology
July 25, 2012
There has been a lot of exciting discussion at the workshop, some of which will soon be made accessible online.
- Here is a link to Joel Primack’s slides for his talk on dark matter, galaxy formation etc.
I really looking forward to hearing about this conference progressed. Some of the most potent areas for change in modern (and, in part, ancient) philosophical physics discussed by rooms full of very well-informed professors of the various fields. Were any of the questions…not “answered”, but maybe, resolved?
Was there any discussion of Q.8, on the reality of the quantum state? If the quantum state ‘really exists’, or is, at least, something more than than just a spread of information, do we have a *(nearly) background-independent theory of a spacetime that can accommodate this (Ideally without appealing to Everett or Broglie-Bohm)?
Is it more or less plausible that the wavefunction (and its associated probabilities), is an emergent effect, caused by a (current) limitation of our perceptions in fewer dimensions?
Reading back… this reply seems to be all questions and no real ‘reply’…
I hope this has helped,
From a perplexed,
Callum
